Problem:	Barry Gillespie has never been known as a "late adopter". ERA Gillespie Real Estate has always been at the cutting edge of technology in their industry. With an agency including over two dozen professional realtors, access to timely and accurate information is absolutely essential. Core office staff was already operating on a peer-to-peer network. But most of the agents had laptop computers and took turns sharing phone lines to access the Internet. Barry knew to that to maintain their competitive advantage he needed to provide them with high speed access to the Internet and to constantly improve internal communications. Unfortunately their historic building did not lend itself well to standard structured wiring. Rewiring the office complex was simply not cost effective. There had to be a better way.
Solution:	We designed and installed a Wireless Local Area Network from 3Com. Office staff and conference rooms continue to operate over a switched 100MB LAN. But all of the laptops can roam the entire office complex connecting seamlessly with the AirConnect system. In addition, we installed and configured a Microsoft Small Business Server, using Proxy Server for shared Internet access and Exchange Server to provide for e-mail, group calendaring, and task management. The Internet connection was one of the first DSL circuits installed in Owatonna.
